Behind-the-scenes of 2024

Behind-the-scenes of 2024
It's time to go behind-the-scenes of 2024 here at House of Flint! I've been reviewing the past 12 months, and wanted to share my key takeaways from this incredible year with you…

First up: how many garments have we sold?
To date, we have sold 737 items! That's a 23% increase from the previous year, so a pretty good start!

How many designs have been brought to life?
Those 737 garments came from 35 designs - some old, some new - and experimenting with this many designs has give me an incredible insight into what to bring you for 2025, based on what you're loving the most…

So which designs have sold the best?
The Doddle, Everything, Loop and Swing styles are all based on the same pattern - and nearly HALF our sales came from these best-selling styles alone! Get even more insight into our sales below…

When did we make money?
This last quarter has made the most revenue by far, but also the least profit! I've launched our first ready-to-wear collection in this time, and this is a big expenditure. Before this quarter, our busiest month was June, the month I had a week of launches for my birthday - it remains to be seen if I will try again next year!

What's eating the profits?
After our amazing sales in June, we pushed over the VAT threshold, and the huge VAT bill I paid a couple of weeks ago may actually be the real culprit behind this last quarter's low profits... I'm still on the cusp of that threshold, but I'm hoping that as I continue to grow, this will become less difficult.

What are the other biggest changes?
There are more numbers to look at than just the sales! In 2024 we've had…
  • One British manufacturing partnership
  • Two new hires on the admin side (studio assistant / fit model & admin assistant)
  • Three currently working in our made-to-order team
  • Four times more space in my new studio
  • Eight launches, over half of which sold out!

What are things looking like overall?
Overall, it has been a year of huge growth (revenue up 68% from 2023!), and tough losses as I spend money to make money. But in today's climate, where so many small businesses are having to close, I am just grateful to still be here! So while this years total profit is only around £700, and on average I've paid myself £5.12 an hour, I'm focusing on the wins, and hoping to increase both those figures for 2025!

And finally…
I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you! Without your support, I wouldn't be here building this business that I love. Thank you for being along for the ride!
