Slow + Sustainable fashion

House of Flint

I'm Jessica and I started House of Flint five years ago whilst living in a caravan at the bottom of a veg plot. We create versatile, long-lasting clothing that moves and adjusts to your body and will take you through each season, offering simplicity, function and comfort. Sizing now runs from XS to 5XL, plus custom sizing or adjustments (length/etc.) are available anytime, up to any size.

Our Values

Every decision I make, from design and fabric to packaging and beyond, is made with sustainability in mind. All purchases are made to order (other than a handful of samples every so often), and I take pride in the slow crafting of each garment to ensure you receive a beautiful piece you're excited to wear time and time again.

Our Name

The name ‘House of Flint’ is inspired by the house my dad has been slowly building for the last 20+ years, which is the base for my extended family. In our little spot in the Lincolnshire Wolds we live and work alongside each other: you’ll find a small publishing press, a nature-inspired blog, beehives, a forge, a potter's wheel and a brewery - to name a few.

Our Studio

I currently run the business from our Lincolnshire studio (with a little sewing hub in our Norwich studio too), balancing work with looking after my three-year-old. If you have any questions it’s always me you are talking to - and I'm always happy to chat and offer help with sizing or garment choice!

Slow fashion

Each garment is handmade to order. We make clothes that are wanted, so each piece is cut individually to take into account any custom adjustments you need, before being stitched up with care at one of our studios or with one of our lovely freelancers.

Every seam is stitched with a flat-felled or french seam, which means it is basically stitched twice to ensure it is as long-lasting and secure as possible.

Your garments then head back to me to be lovingly pressed and packed! This whole process takes around 5-6 weeks (although you can request a rush order too).

Sustainable

Our designs are intended to transcend the fickleness of trend-led fast fashion. I design timeless pieces that we add to rarely, and each piece is created with adjustability in mind, so even as our bodies naturally change over time we can keep reaching for these garments again and again.

We switch up our fabrics every month or two, so there is something for everyone! Using a combination of ethically sourced natural fabrics, and deadstock fabric. Deadstock fabrics are unwanted fabrics that are saved from waste. I love using these as they are limited edition (usually very low quantities), so they become super exclusive!Every order sent out will also be packed with some fabric remnants to ensure if you have any problems they can be fixed up with a subtle patch.

Adjustable

Our garments have always been created with a changing body in mind. Our bodies don’t stay the same over time, so how can we expect our clothing to? Adjustable fits are created with clever ties, wraps and elasticated areas, and we never use traditional fastenings such as buttons or zips, as these are more prone to breaking over time.

Inclusive

From the beginning of House of Flint, I made expanding our sizing a priority. I have always offered custom sizing, but our standard sizing also runs from an XS-5XL.

You can also customise your garment to ensure it is perfect for you. Longer body, shorter leg or wider tummy - we can cut your piece to fit just right! And did we mention this is FREE?

In addition, we regularly make adjustments for those with different needs (wheelchair users/etc.) so I am always happy to chat over making your garment easier to wear too
